If you’ve been eating with us for a while, you might recognize that these dressings represent Primal Kitchen’s first foray into including dairy ingredients in our products. So why now? What has changed?
We’re so glad you asked!
Dairy Disruption and Dairy Done Differently
Since day one, Primal Kitchen has been committed to offering sauces, condiments, and other kitchen staples made only with ingredients that meet our high standards for quality and integrity. Until now, we have been reimagining creamy dressings and sauces without dairy ingredients, aka dairy disruption. Our creamy no-dairy dressings achieve their creamy texture via an emulsification of avocado oil and egg yolks, while our vegan alfredo sauces harness the naturally smooth nuttiness of cashew butter; and the creaminess in our collagen drink mixes comes from coconut milk powder.
We always knew if we were going to include dairy ingredients in any of our products, we had to do it in a way that upholds our values and supports our mission. Now we can proudly say that we’ve done just that.
Our Tzatziki Style Dressing, Buttermilk Ranch, and Creamy Romano Dressings feature grass-fed dairy—yogurt, buttermilk, and cheese—from partners whose values align with ours. The dairy comes from cows raised without added growth hormones on farms that offer year-round access to pasture. For us, grass-fed dairy is more than just a label. It’s a commitment to ingredient integrity.

But Why Dairy?
The short answer is: we love the creaminess that comes from premium ingredients like grass-fed dairy. (What’s not to love about yogurt and cheese??) In our opinion, good dairy from grass-fed cows plus good fats from avocado oil is a match made in heaven!
Creamy condiments like ranch dressing do typically contain dairy, and dairy can be part of a healthy, balanced diet. From a culinary perspective, we use dairy to give our dressings a rich, silky mouthfeel and a smooth, stable texture. Dairy also helps pull flavors together, helping other ingredients like herbs and spices shine, and creating a deliciously satisfying taste experience.
But don’t worry, our no-dairy dressings, condiments, and sauces aren’t going away! We have plenty of room in our hearts—and in our fridges—for our favorite no-dairy Ranch, Caesar, Buffalo Sauce, and more. We’re still committed as ever to providing no-dairy options made with real ingredients that taste amazing.
